Naturaly Dyed with Black Catechu/ Acacia Catechu (from the Black Cutch Tree)

“The acacia catechu belongs to the Mimosaceae family (like Mimosa). It grows in south-east Asia and every part of the plant is used: wood, leaves, pods, roots. Its use is very ancient in Asia due to its medicinal properties. It is still used today in the pharmaceutical industry both as a colorant and as an astringent and disinfectant ingredient. Clinical studies have confirmed its antioxidant, antimicrobial and antifungal activity. It is used to heal wounds, treat diabetes and obesity.
The coloring, which is obtained by boiling wood, is due to the presence of quercitins and protoanthocyanidins (red tannins) and gives all the notes from beige to pink and brown.

    Material and Dyeing FAQs:

    • The Moso Bamboo fibres that form our fabrics are organically sourced and spun to achieve an incredibly soft OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100-certified fabric with a silky smooth finish. Naturally breathable and thermoregulating with odour-resistance and moisture control, the socks and underwear they’re created from are gentle to sensitive skin and ultra comfortable for all-day wear.

    • Each shade in our colour range is naturally derived from a plant with a longstanding history of use in medical applications and textile dyeing. These are:

    • Environmental and social responsibility informs every stage of our design and production process. Following a low-impact cycle to becoming our silky-soft OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100-certified fabric, Moso Bamboo fibres are organically sourced in their natural habitat, processed by our FSC-certified yarn manufacturing partner and dyed using natural techniques that enhance the treated fibres’ beneficial properties.

Our garments are ethically produced in trusted small factories in Italy, and our merchandise materials, including 100% recycled paper packaging, are sourced from Europe, which ensures fair and ethical working conditions and reduces our carbon footprint.

    • Honouring our commitment to skin health and comfort, dyeing our garments naturally not optimises colour fastness and intensity, but also enhances our treated fabrics with antibacterial, antimicrobial and other properties. This makes our socks and underwear especially well-suited to sensitive and allergy-prone skin.

    • Natural dyeing gives our socks and underwear their eye-catching colours while enabling the fabrics to be gentle and beneficial to sensitive areas of skin. Prioritising natural processes allows us to keep our environmental impact to a minimum while avoiding synthetic chemicals that may contain harmful metals or toxins. Our natural dyeing recipes are developed with a microbiologist specialised in natural dyeing to carry the antibacterial, antimicrobial and other beneficial properties of our source plants through to the skin via the gradual shedding of micro-tannins released in the natural course of wear while enhancing all-day freshness and comfort.

    • Each of our natural dyes has successfully passed the global industry-leading ISO standards for sun exposure, friction and wash fastness.
We recommend washing our socks and underwear together with similar colours with eco-labelled mild detergent on a gentle cycle at a maximum of 30–40 degrees Celcius, and drying them in shadow.
